QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK IN UGANDA
This is the most popular and diverse conservation area found in the western part of Uganda blessed with a scenery of the rift valley escarpments, lakes (Albert, George with the Kazinga Channel which connects to Lake Edward), the snow-capped Rwenzori mountain and escarpments. Naturally Queen Elizabeth is blessed with; a vast grass land, acacia woodland, forest, open water, wetlands and a variety of habitants including mammal and over 604 bird species on a 2,000km2.
The park was named after The Queen of England in 1954 following her visit.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to 618 bird species which is the 6th highest diversity in the world and the highest in Africa making it a perfect destination for Birding Safaris, in addition to 10 primate species like chimpanzees, 95 mammals and the big game.
Tree climbing lions are so unique in the whole world, explore the southern Ishasha sector to track these lions commonly seen up in the fig and acacia trees.
Kalinzu Forest offers a very rewarding chimpanzee tracking experience and it is located on the southeastern corner of the park
The Kazinga Channel is natural water channel that connects Lakes Edward and George which is home to a large number of hippos, Nile Crocodiles, elephants and hippos which can easily be seen on the thrilling boat cruise.
Kasenyi Plains are popularly visited by tourists as they are home to a very large number of antelopes, the Uganda Kobs, lions and several large predators.
Kyambura Gorge is a forested 100 meter deep valley with peculiar home to a large number of primates and popular for Chimpanzee tracking in Uganda.
Mweya Peninsular is a stretch of land that protrudes into Lake Edwards and is commonly visited during game drives for its perfect game views while exploring the various game tracks.
Lake Katwe Salt Works within the alkaline Lake Katwe, salt mining works have been ongoing for several years since that is the main economic activity in the area. Consequently a large number of tourists visit here to learn and observe the traditional method of salt mining.
The Katwe Explosion Crater Lakes found in the northern part are found on the highest elevation of the park. from here tourists enjoy sweeping views of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges, the western rift valley escarpments, lakes George and Edward.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is located about 389 km from Kampala capital city and can be accessed wether by road which may take 6-7 hours drive via Masaka Road or via Mubende-Fort Portal-Kasese road covering 410 km for about 6-7 hours or by a charter flight.
